Clapton Common is the start of this walk through historic Hackney and the open spaces that have been preserved. It is such a small fragment of the common but from here there is a view across the Lea Valley to to Epping Forest and the haze in the distance would have been seen by people hundreds of years ago.

From here it is a short and pleasant walk through the back streets of Hackney to Stoke Newington Common, again just remnants of what was once a much larger common - but just across the road there is Abney Park Cemetery to discover - a place to linger if you enjoy ancient, overgrown and mysterious places.

The walk could end here or there may be time to catch a bus to Dalston Eastern Curve Garden - always worth a visit to see how derelict railway land can be transformed into a natural and uplifting space.
Start at Clapton Station and end at Stoke Newington Station or Dalston Junction
