Hackney City Farm

The farmyard

On this site there once stood a brewery and now it has been returned to its original purpose: farming.

There are sheep in the meadow and the donkeys have been led out of their stables on to the grass. A gaggle of geese are busy in the farmyard with a slender black duck stretching out one leg and balancing on the other like a ballerina.

Goats, sheep and chickens live happily here and some of the animals, like their human city counterparts, have a second home in the countryside as they are on rotation with a farm in Kent.

The nearby orchard has been cultivated using the principles of permaculture - taking what nature shows us is best and trying to emulate how it works.
